Relationship Focused Therapy in the Napa Valley

About Our Team

Couples Counseling | Family Counseling | Women's Counseling

Hello and welcome. If you are looking for help dealing with overwhelming emotions, relationship difficulties, or challenging life transitions, I'm glad you have found our website. I am a warm, active and direct therapist who specializes in working with individuals, couples and families seeking meaningful and lasting change in their lives.

Therapy is an opportunity to make sense and heal from past experiences and learn new ways of being in the world- both with yourself and in relationships.

My goal is to support, encourage and also challenge our clients to create a life of greater ease, fulfillment and meaning. Please take some time to look over this site to get a sense of who we are and how we work. If you think one of our therapists or I may be someone you would feel comfortable working with, we would love to hear from you. Our hope for you is to heal, grow and thrive.

Warmly,

Cathie Gordon & The EWT Team

CATHIE GORDON, LMFT, LPCC

Founder of Empathy Works Therapy

Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant, Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT)

Therapy is an opportunity for clients to learn to communicate in deeper and more meaningful ways.

I help individuals and couples create greater safety within their relationships and deepen their emotional bonds with loved ones. I especially love working with women with mid-life concerns and supporting parents navigating the challenges of raising children.

I believe in the healing power of relationship. We are hurt in relationship and we heal in relationship.

Clients tell me I am a warm and compassionate therapist. I believe we are are stronger than we know.

JENNY PEREZ, LCSW

I help individuals and couples realize a fuller potential. Through a safe therapeutic relationship I help clients share their thoughts and feelings in ways that serve and enhance their well-being.

When we become aware of how and why we behave the way we do, we can make a more conscious choice as to how we wish to be now.  This can help us have more fulfilling and closer relationships with ourselves and others, as well as open ourselves up to finding deeper meaning in our lives.

We naturally seek togetherness, crave closeness and intimacy. Sometimes the world around us and/or the world within us can block us from getting our needs met.

This is the goal of therapy; To help us regain our connections to self, others and the world around us.

Lucas Harris, AMFT

I work with individuals, couples, and teens, offering a supportive and collaborative space where you can explore life's challenges, heal from past experiences, and strengthen your relationships.

I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS), leading to greater self-compassion, inner healing, improved relationships and support around trauma.

For couples, I draw upon IFS and the Developmental Model by the Couple's Institute, to help partners understand themselves and each other on a deeper level.

I also offer support for parents navigating the unique joys and challenges of raising a neurodivergent child.

Clients describe me as thoughtful, kind, and genuinely caring.

Maggie Lair, APCC

Reaching out is usually the hardest step. If you’re here, some part of you is ready - and that’s enough to start.

I work with adolescents and young adults navigating life transitions - identity, independence, dating and relationships, friendship dynamics, family stress, career uncertainty, and the weight of trying to figure it all out.

I also work with individuals exploring relationship patterns and what gets in the way of real connection.

Additionally, I support couples who want to do the harder, more honest work of reconnecting.

My approach is warm, direct, and collaborative. I draw from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment theory, and somatic and trauma-informed approaches.

Natalie Sekowski, C-IAYT

Intake Coordinator

It is my pleasure to be a part of the team at Empathy Works Therapy.

I help communicate with potential new clients, field inquiries and questions, help match clients to one of our therapists and coordinate our waitlists.

As the intake coordinator, it is my honor to hold space for folks with warmth and compassion. I know it can sometimes be especially hard to reach out to ask for support. I am happy to help.

Outside of my role for Empathy Works Therapy, I am a Certified Yoga Therapist. My focus includes anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, and working with seniors and caregivers. I also volunteer with hospice patients. I work with individuals, teach small group classes and enjoy supporting teams of professionals.
